Identify Concerns that must change (look to the future)
(Assign points to concerns from 1 to 3 in the order of the most important issues to consider.)
1. Students must stop failing to attend tutorials in order to prevail in core classes and TAKS examinations.
2. Teachers and administration must be aware of what tutorial attendance factors can be controlled by them.
3. Students must be exposed to different teaching strategies during tutoring.
Identify Affirmations that must be sustained (look to the present)
(Assign points to affirmations from 1 to 3 in the order of the most important issues to consider.)
1. Students should continue to be reminded of the importance of attending after-school tutoring.
2. Teacher should continue to demonstrate positive reinforcement towards students who are attending tutoring.
3. Teacher should continue to call the legal guardians of students who are constantly absent during tutorial.
SMART Recommendations that must be implemented:
(Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely)
(Assign points to recommendations from 1 to 3 in the order of the most important recommendations to implement.)
1. Student must be given weekly assessment in order for student to appreciate how tutorial is helping him/her.
2. Teacher must research and implement different teaching techniques during tutoring.
3. Administrators should monitor tutorial attendance on a weekly basis.
EVALUATE – Specifically and Often
(Identify the best ways to evaluate the implemented recommendations.)
1. Surveys will be distributed to tutorial students in order to determine what factors encouraged and/or discouraged them from attending tutoring.
2. Group discussion will be held with tutorial students in order to gain insights on what teaching strategies motivated them/unmotivated them during tutoring.
3. A reflective conversation will take place between tutorial students and me after the last tutorial session with the purpose of gaining insights on their tutorial attendance.
Your CARE Modelis very well written. We are both working on a similar topic, tutorials. It is very intersting to read your CARE model - to see the similarities and differences between what you have written and what I wrote. Attendance is a major topic in both of ours. I'm curious - are your tutorials brokien down by objectives or just subject area? Are tutorials are done by subject and teachers tutor their own students. I think we need to move to flexible grouping based on objectives. What do you think?
